Clinical Services
In view of the significant needs of students, therapeutic and related services are a valued and critical part of the program. To enhance coordination of treatment services, a clinician serves as the team leader for the program. The ratio of clinical/ social service staff to student is 6:1. There is a full time psychologist for each cottage of 12, as well as a full time social worker, to provide therapy and needed clinical interventions with the students and their family members. Together with the clinical team leader, the therapeutic staff also run therapy groups for the students in the program. These same clinical staff work with the students during the school day in order to support and assist in their learning environment. Since this population does not generally respond well to traditional therapy, our clinical staff has been integrated into the school and cottage life, which allows the students to access their assistance in less formal ways. While one of the two clinicians designated for each cottage, is the primary therapist for a given student, each is involved with all of the students in their cottage depending on what is needed. We strongly support team work within our programs. Additionally the clinical team works closely with the educational and residential staff to enhance their understanding of the individualized needs of the students and to provide training on relevant topics.
